UN Global Compact supports humanitarian appeal to help Ukraine

UN Global Compact is partnering with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs on a guide for businesses to support the Secretary-General’s three-month Flash Appeal for people in Ukraine.

The military assault on Ukraine has caused a growing humanitarian crisis. As well as providing some emergency support to colleagues at the Global Compact Network Ukraine, UN Global Compact is partnering with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs on a guide for businesses to support the Secretary-General’s three-month Flash Appeal for people in Ukraine, and a Regional Refugee Response Plan for the situation outside, under the leadership of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Financial contributions to reputable aid agencies are one of the most effective forms of response in humanitarian emergencies. However, the private sector can also support by making in-kind contributions, engaging in joint advocacy, and developing innovative solutions to meet the needs of those affected by the conflict.

Urgent call for ambitious climate action

Businesses everywhere must take urgent climate action, UN Global Compact CEO & Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo said in a statement following release of a landmark UN report on climate change impacts by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Echoing the words of Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that “fossil fuels are a dead end,” she said the private sector must play a critical role in the transition to renewable energies. “We need more companies to factor adaptation and resiliency into their corporate sustainability policies and practices.”.
